One of the two winning tickets for the Mega Millions lottery jackpot worth $502 million drawn on Friday, October 14, 2022, was sold in hurricane-ravaged Fort Myers, Florida.

Days after Hurricane Ian struck the southwestern coast of Florida, someone lucky in Fort Myers bought a winning Mega Millions lottery ticket worth $502 million.

According to the officials of the Mega Millions Lottery, the jackpot is known to be the eleventh-largest in the game's history. Also, this jackpot is known to be the 22nd-largest lottery jackpot of any game in US history.

Winning such a grand amount of Mega Millions jackpot at this time of disaster could easily turn anybody's fate. Also, the Florida Lottery allows its winners to remain anonymous for 90 days after they claim the prize.

As per the reports, the 7-Eleven convenience store on Colonial Boulevard in Fort Myers sold the winning Quick Pick Mega Millions ticket, which incorporated all the six winning numbers - 9, 22, 26, 41, and 44 with Mega Ball 19. The retailer will get a commission of $100,000 for selling the jackpot-winning ticket. The winner has 180 days from the draw date to claim the prize, but the claim should be filed within 60 days after the draw date to opt for the one-time lump sum cash option. The estimated cash option for Friday's drawings was $247.9 million before it was updated to $252 million. The second ticket was sold in California, so both the winners would receive $126 million before taxes. 

The winning ticket in California was sold at the 7-Eleven on Kooser Road in South San Jose. Saturday morning, a copy of the winning ticket's receipt was tapped into the store's cash register window. 

Both the 7-Eleven's parent company and the store, as well as the retailers that sell winning Mega Millions tickets in California, will receive a bonus of around $1 million. 

In addition to the jackpot winners, in California and Florida, three other tickets matched all five white ball numbers to win a second-tier prize. Two lottery players, while one player in Texas added the Megaplier option to their ticket and got a chance to double their prize to $2 million after the 2X multiplier was drawn.
