After his everyday routine, Joyce would pick up a Cash 5 ticket with EZ MATCH on his way home daily. Following the April 21 draw, the healthcare driver checked his numbers in the morning, and discovered that he was now a winner of the $149,814 Carolina Cash 5 jackpot.

Joyce exclaimed that he almost fainted seeing the winning numbers.

James purchased the winning ticket at the Crossroads Exon on West Market Street in Greensboro betting on his own set of lucky numbers for that night's drawing. The winning numbers for his lucky drawing were 6, 16, 19, 27, and 39. Joyce took advantage of the temporary claiming process which allowed him to claim his prize from home via mail.

James received a total of $105,994 after the deduction of federal and state taxes. This jackpot win was followed by the announcement from the North Carolina Education Lottery that it will again open its doors for claiming, starting Monday, May 11. The lottery released a set of guidelines for its players, who seek to collect winnings in-person.

The Claim Centres will allow only a few people in the building to maintain proper social distancing during the claim process.

Anyone entering the building for claims should wear a mask for facial covering. Even the staff of the lottery will also be wearing personal protective equipment, including a mask or facial coverings and gloves to maintain the safety measures.

Visitors to the lottery centers must practice social distancing by staying at least six feet apart from others.

To avoid queues, the lottery reminded its players that the deadline to claim prizes for winning tickets expiring between March 10 and August 1 was extended to November 1. Players can continue to claim prizes of $600 to $99,999 by signing the ticket and mailing it to the lottery headquarters.
