A new lottery has been formulated by the electronics maker in Japan. The Electronics manufacturer Sharp Corp. has come up with this new strategy of selling its face masks via lottery.
Hospitals, stores, and consumers in Japan are finding it difficult to acquire masks due to shortages and increasing demand during the Covid-19 crisis. Originally Sharp shipped some masks to the medical facilities but were unable to complete any online orders once they started offering on a first come first serve basis.
Sharp started accepting orders for face masks from Tuesday but was forced to suspend the operations of the website since it acquired a large number of buyers which also affected the sales of Sharp’s other products and services.
As a solution, Sharp devised a lottery for 30,000 boxes of masks, with a limit of one box of 50 masks per person. Each box of mask is worth 2,980 yen, or $28.
Here’s how the new lottery works:
Customers can place orders starting from midnight Sunday to 11:59 p.m. Monday. The next day, the electronics manufacturer will randomly select through the entries and notify the winners through mail. The timing of the order may not reflect the odds of winning. According to Sharp, multiple entries will be nullified if Sharp discovers that a single person has tried to purchase multiple mask boxes.
