Thanks to Senator Ron Mottl who started a campaign to begin lottery in Ohio in 1973. Finally, in 1973, voters approved Ohio Lottery Commission and hence it began. Lottery profits are solely transferred to education. Pick 3 started on December 3, 1979, and is contributing to generating education supplement revenues since then. It was the first-ever lottery game in Ohio where players could choose their desired numbers. On August 16, 1999, Pick 3 expanded to twice-daily draws.

About The Commission

The Ohio Lottery supports the Governer’s initiative to build strong schools, great quality of life, and compassion for those who need help. The Lottery Commission strives to support education by offering entertaining gaming experiences. The Ohio Lottery Commission meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month at the Frank J. Lausche State Office Building, located at 615 W. Superior Ave. Cleveland, Ohio. Dates and time of the meeting are subject to change. Matthew Blair serves as the Interim Chairman. He belongs to Niles and was appointed to the Ohio Lottery for a term ending August 1, 2021.
