New Hampshire lottery started in 1964 and was known as New Hampshire Sweepstakes. It is the second oldest lottery in the US. New Hampshire lottery generates sufficient funds to support programs that benefit New Hampshire schools.
It took around six tries over 10 years, but New Hampshire Representative Larry Pickett finally gained enough support for his Sweepstakes bill in 1963 for the measure to pass, and it got signed into law on April 30, 1963. New Hampshire was part of the very first multistate lottery group in the United States, forming the Tri-State Lotto Compact with Maine and Vermont in April 1985. The Lottery satisfies its mission of providing maximum revenues to aid public education by providing secure and entertaining gaming products to its players.
