The Iowa Lottery came into existence in 1985. The bill legalizing the Iowa lottery was passed in April 1985. The official sale of lottery tickets began on August 22, 1985, with a grand celebration at the Iowa State Fair. Since the lottery’s establishment, the players have won more than $4.5 billion in prizes, while the lottery has contributed more than $2 billion for the state programs to benefit the Iowans. The proceeds of the Iowa lottery support the state’s veterans and their family, support Iowa Public Safety Survivor Benefits Fund, contribute to the State General Fund, and backs the Vision Iowa Program. Since the lottery has been producing innumerable winners with games like Mega Millions, Powerball, Pick 3, Pick 4, Lucky For Life, and Lotto America.
