The Delaware State Lottery was established on May 31, 1974, after more than 100 years when not even a single lottery operated in Delaware. In the early years of the 1970s, New Jersey, New Hampshire, and New York started their own lotteries and sold millions of tickets. Following them, Delaware started its own lottery. The Delaware Lottery started its first game in March 1975.
In 44 years of operation, the Delaware Lottery is continuing its tradition of winning. According to State Laws, Delaware Lottery has been generating income for the State’s General Fund. The Delaware Lottery has contributed $5.4 billion to the state’s General Fund since 1975. The Delaware Lottery remains the 4th largest source of revenue for the state. The contribution made by the lottery helps to educate children and youth, protect people from crime and pollution, maintain parks and beaches, ensure healthcare for families and seniors.
