Arizona Lottery is governed by the state of Arizona and is a member of the Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL). Arizona was the first state west of the Mississippi to approve of a lottery with a statewide public initiative passed in November 1980. The first sale of the Arizona Lottery was held on July 1, 1981, with the instant scratch ticket called Scratch It Rich! Triple Twist is an in-state jackpot game of the Arizona Lottery with its first drawing held on December 17, 2018. The largest jackpot ever bagged was $1.9 million on May 22, 2019, located in Tucson. The Arizona Lottery Commission directs the Arizona Lottery leadership team to develop and market games that produce the maximum amount of net revenue through responsible play.
The commission consists of five members appointed by the Governor for a term of five years. No more than three may be from the same political party, and the members annually elect one member to serve as chair.
At least one member of the commission must have at least five years of experience in each of the following industries:
