Until 2005, North Carolina was the only US state on the east coast without a lottery. Finally, in 2005, NCEL (North Carolina Education Lottery) enacted but was soon charged with overseeing all aspects of the education lottery. 100% of NCEL net proceeds go directly to public schools. Pick 4 began on April 17, 2009, and is contributing to the education program ever since.

About The Commission

North Carolina Lottery Commission comprises of nine members. The commission supervises and administers the education lottery. The earnings of the North Carolina Lottery are allocated to education-related purposes by N.C. General Assembly.

Crowder serves as chairman of N.C. Lottery Commission. He chairs the Community Affairs Committee, and also serves on the Executive Committee and Games and Marketing Committee.

Unless specified, the meetings will be held at the North Carolina Education Lottery Headquarters at a time to be designated by the Chair.

North Carolina State Lottery Beneficiaries

Proceeds from Lottery ticket sales and unclaimed prizes go back to the community for -Over time, lottery funds have been directed by legislators to support different education programs, including paying for the salaries of teachers and teacher assistants and digital learning initiatives.
