In November 1986, the voters of Kansas approved a constitutional amendment authorizing the creation of their state lottery. The Kansas Lottery Act was passed by the Kansas Legislature in 1987 and led to the creation of the Kansas Lottery. Kansas Lottery aims in producing the maximum amount of revenue possible for the State while maintaining the integrity of all the lottery games. Since then, the Lottery is known to produce innumerable winners for games like Mega Millions, Powerball, Lotto America, Lucky For Life, Pick 3, Super Kansas Cash, KENO, 2by2, and many more.

In November of 1986, 64 percent of Kansas voters approved a constitutional amendment authorizing the creation of a state lottery. The state legislature passed the "Kansas Lottery Act" in 1987, and the Kansas Lottery was established.
The five commissioners are appointed by the governor to serve alternating four-year terms. The commission consults with and advises the Executive Director in establishing rules and regulations for lottery games and approving the annual budget. The mission of the Kansas Lottery is to produce the maximum amount of revenue possible for the State of Kansas while ensuring the integrity of all games.
Proceeds from Lottery ticket sales and unclaimed prizes go back to the community for -Economic development initiatives, prison construction and maintenance projects, local juvenile detention facilities, problem gambling assistance, and the State General Fund
