People who play lotteries regularly and trust their luck can be targets for scams. Moreover, scammers have evolved with time and technology to become more persuasive. If you’re not careful, you may end up buying a lottery ticket from a bogus website or giving away your credit card details to a “lotto representative”. Today, technology is serving as the modern Trojan Horse! And before you know it, you could be racking up bills for things you never even purchased. Therefore, be careful and read these tips so that you can avoid getting scammed out of your hard-earned money.

Be aware and spread awareness

First of all, being an aware and responsible player is the most important thing that can keep you from being scammed. Being constantly alarmed about every scam is impractical and time-consuming. But you can keep your excitement in check before clicking on “Buy” or “download” buttons while surfing the internet. You need to be aware because carelessness is the first thing scammers target.  They specifically attempt to sense people with a lack of responsibility because they want to deal with people who are careless enough to dismiss the red flags waving in their faces.

Learn to spot the scam

Awareness is just half the battle though because you must also take charge and do your homework. There are various websites that offer genuine information on lotteries including The Lottery Lab. A simple Google search can get you the information you need and can save you from a lot of trouble. There are simple tactics that can help you spot the scams a mile away in the future. Fake lottery sites are not the only way scammers lure their victims. Learn about other trademark techniques as well-

Pay first, win never

Look for the website which never asks for your personal details, but asks you to pay a certain amount to unlock your reward! Isn’t it too good to be true? Well, it’s a trap, don’t fall for it. Have a look at the legitimate sites which are licensed and regulated by gambling commissions, which means they can’t pull stunts like this. Only the fake ones can commit such frauds!

Freebies email

If you receive an email saying that you've won a free lottery subscription or something like that, chances are you’re being scammed. Lottery subscription is a business and if they start to randomly reward it, they will run out of business. After all, online lotteries are businesses, and giving away subscriptions for free will eat their profits away!

The winning ticket

This one is similar to the subscription trick where you get an email notifying you of your “big win”. The problem with this email is that you never entered a contest or never bought a lottery ticket in the first place. Think about it, if you never participated in the program, how can you expect to win it? Keep in mind that nothing is free- especially lottery jackpots!

The phone call

Calling is very simple yet effective scamming technique. It goes like this- the scammer will call you and claim to be an official lottery representative. They will tell you that you’ve won big and need to claim your winnings by giving away personal details and credit card details. Anyone who plays lottery on a regular basis knows that any legitimate lottery agency would never approach you like this. Therefore, be careful not to share your credit card or other banking details because you know how bad that can end!
